J.Lynn Johnston's Blahg!

I love my life! You should too…

Leaks and Floods

-First off, let me just say that it’s raining in Los Angeles harder than I’ve seen in a long time. OK. Now that we’re clear on that… On with the story…

-I was working in the studio last night… Laying down some vocals. When you record vocals, you tend to drink a lot of water to keep the ol’ pipes glistening… When you drink a lot of water, you tend to have to piss a lot. So yeah… I was taking bathroom breaks about every hour. On a trip to the bathroom at about 2am, I noticed that the doorknob in the bathroom was wet. That’s enough to make ANYONE nervous.

-I looked around the room, and saw puddles on the floor, extending out from the brick wall. I followed the trail upwards, and saw that water was leaking THROUGH the walls like a faucet! It was a constant drip along the ENTIRE length of the loft, spewing out the top of the window frames. Apparently the brick wasn’t weather-sealed properly. And it’s storming like the apocalypse outside…

-So at three in the morning, my roommate and I were scrambling to get everything away from the walls and onto dry ground. Pictures and artwork had to come down, stereos and the loft PA system had to be relocated, couches were shoved to the center… It was drama.

-By the time I got back into the studio, IT WAS FLOODING TOO! There are additional internal walls and a false ceiling with soundproofing on them, and water was dripping down through the cracks. I had to move all my guitars and instruments out so they wouldn’t get damaged, and then I had to unplug all the electronic equipment (computer, synth, mixer) so that they wouldn’t get fried if the water in the walls shorted out the electrical outlets. Gahhh…

-We’ve made a couple well-worded phone calls to the owner of our building. Ironically enough, he runs a business that does “environmental restoration.” Basically that means they clean up after floods and fires and other natural disasters… They get mold out of the walls and restore buildings to their proper condition… You’d think the guy would be a bit more on top of things in HIS OWN place! Whatever…

-I just hate not being able to use my stuff. I want to get things done for you to hear!!! Stay tuned. My life is a soap opera…

Love and daytime television (at 2 am),

Virus… And Idiots…

-This stupid MyDoom junk is making me crazy… I mean… First of all, I am a die-hard Mac user, so these virus programs are never written for me or the other 5% of computer users who use Macs. But seriously… I’ve gotten more than 500 emails in recent days because some moron who had my email address in their computer downloaded this dumb MyDoom thing.

-How hard is it? You get an email in your inbox that says it was “undeliverable” to an email address you don’t recognize, and has a file attached to it with a really vague name. Uhm… Did you send that file to someone in an email? No? Delete it, MORON! How many strangers do you get emails from in one day? If it ain’t junk mail, it’s a virus. Both are rediculous. It’s not THAT tough to figure out.

-The MyDoom virus is a witty one. It actually INVENTS email addresses to write in when it sends itself to people. My administrator account for JLynnJohnston.com has been completely bogged down with emails to and from accounts like “Mary@JLynnJohnston.com” and “Joe@JLynnJohnston.com”… And I’m sure the virus is writing those same nonexistent email addresses in the infected mail itself to try to fool people into thinking that “Mary@JLynnJohnston.com” thought they might enjoy a new screen saver…

-Rule of thumb here, simpleton… If it ends in .exe, .pif, .zip, etc… DON’T download it! I can’t believe people are STILL so computer illiterate that they STILL download unexpected files blindly. But hey… There’s one born every minute…

Love and inbox inundation,

Chicken Fried Rice

-Chicken fried rice is really good. It’s so good that it’s actually all I’ve eaten for the past three days. I’m sure I’ll get sick of it eventually, but for now I’m still loving it. A big part of that is probably because it’s FREE.

-My roommate Tom moved to Oregon on Friday. And Thursday night, we had a farewell party for him at our loft. Lots of people brought food. So much food that all the food that had been prepared for the party just kinda sat there. So since the Thursday night party, we’ve had enough chicken fried rice left over to feed the entire nation of Somalia.

-Instead of shipping it to Somalia (it would surely go bad on the ship over), I’ve decided to put the chicken fried rice towards another worthy cause… The starving musician’s studio hunger relief effort. Yeah. I’m eating it. All of it. Meal after meal. Fantastic.

Love and leftovers,
